Oxygen Concentrators

Oxygen concentrators should be serviced regularly or they stop working.

Spare filters are available and should be changed regularly.

Humidification should be used and the water changed frequently.

One oxygen concentrator can be used to provide oxygen to two or more patients. Effective flow-splitters are available (Fig 1). If using an improvised T-piece, the tubing must be the same length, diameter and type to ensure equal resistance on both sides otherwise the oxygen is not divided equally.
