Question: How is the cricoid cartilage identified?

Answer: First locate the thyroid cartilage - the most prominent cartilage to feel. It can be confirmed by asking the patient to swallow as it moves upwards with swallowing. As you move gradually down the neck, the crico-thyroid membrane is felt next, followed by the cricoid cartilage.
