Overview

The DAS published national guidelines in 2004. They are made up of sequential plans and deal with three different scenarios:

Scenario 1 - unanticipated difficult tracheal intubation - during routine induction of anaesthesia in an adult patient

Scenario 2 - unanticipated difficult tracheal intubation - during rapid sequence induction of anaesthesia (using suxamethonium) in a non-obstetric patient

Scenario 3 - failed intubation, increasing hypoxaemia and difficult, inadequate ventilation in the paralyzed anaesthetized patient

Since the publication of the DAS guidelines there has been increasing evidence of the usefulness of the ProSeal LMA. This session reflects that evidence.

The DAS guidelines for Scenarios 1, 2 and 3 are avilable in the Downloads section of the Resources menu.
