The ProSeal LMA has been shown to form a better airway seal and provides improved protection from aspiration; however, this may have to be weighed against lack of familiarity and increased difficulty of insertion.

Cricoid pressure should also be released to allow passage of a ProSeal LMA.

Insertion by railroading the drain tube over a gum elastic bougie is strongly recommended, as this increases insertion success considerably.
