The following are useful signs of correct TT placement:
- A positive capnography trace
- A clear view of the TT passing between the vocal cords
- The rise and fall of the patient’s chest wall
- Bilateral air entry throughout both lung fields. This is important
so as to exclude an endobronchial intubation which can occur if the TT
is inserted too far
- Misting in the TT on expiration
Note: it is best to auscultate with your stethoscope
in the axillae using manual ventilation.
