In the anaesthetic room during induction, blood pressure was recorded over 15 min using NIBP, and ranged from 140/80 mm Hg to 120/64 mm Hg. On transferring to the operating table, the NIBP monitor is unable to record the blood pressure. Carefully review the photograph and identify the problem.

Answer:

There is a disconnection in one of the tubes between the cuff and the NIBP monitor, therefore the monitor is not able to inflate the cuff. Loose connections, disconnections and kinking of the tubes can result in the monitor being unable to record the reading.
