The patient should be transferred to her bed and taken to a recovery area.
Regular observations of pulse, blood pressure and respiratory rate should be taken.
Motor power and sensation returns within 6 hours and she should remain in bed until it has returned.
If a urinary catheter has not been placed or once it has been removed, the mother should be monitored closely for signs of urinary retention (lower abdominal pain/discomfort and not passed urine).
