Generally speaking, epidural anaesthesia is an option for surgery to all the same anatomical areas as spinal:

• The lower limbs
• The perineum
• The pelvis and pelvic organs
• The lower abdomen
• All obstetric procedures, including caesarean section

However, unlike spinals, an epidural can be used to augment anaesthesia for surgery to the upper abdomen and thorax.
