Tamponade

Cardiac tamponade

This should be suspected if there has been a history of blunt or penetrating trauma to the chest wall, or recent cardiac surgery. Diagnosis requires an index of suspicion and an echocardiogram is diagnostic. Treatment is pericardiocentesis.
