Heart

• Maintains blood pressure and flow to vital organs

Peripheral vasculature

• Maintains blood pressure to allow flow of blood and so oxygen to vital organs
• Homeostasis of systemic vascular resistance minimizes workload of heart and allows efficient blood flow
