Non-sterile gloves should be worn to protect yourself when there is
likely to be contact with:
- Blood or other body fluid or potentially infectious materials, e.g.
placing intravenous cannula
- Mucous membranes e.g. dental examination
- Contact with non-intact skin e.g. wound
Gloves are not needed to:
- Check a patient's blood pressure
- Examine intact skin or for subcutaneous or intramuscular
injections
