Each main bronchus is divided into 10 functionally separate bronchopulmonary segments, each with its own bronchus, blood supply and distinct lung parenchyma, which is useful to the surgeon in lung resection surgery.
Fig 1 shows the trachea and main, lobar, segmental and terminal bronchi.
Table 1 lists the 10 separate bronchopulmonary segments. Note that the bronchopulmonary segments are named alike in both the right and left lung, apart from the two in the middle lobe
