Electrical System

Fig 1 Electrical system of the heart

Fig 1 shows the electrical system of the heart, which includes:

  • Sinoatrial (S-A) node

This node is the cardiac pacemaker and is supplied by the right coronary artery in 65 % of people.

Fig 1 shows the electrical system of the heart, which includes:

Although these tracts exist, conduction through the atria is normally non-specific but synchronous.

Fig 1 shows the electrical system of the heart, which includes:

The atrioventricular node slows the conduction of the AP to the ventricles and is responsible for the A-V conduction delay. Fibrous A-V rings electrically insulate the atria from the ventricles. The A-V node is the only electrical link.

Abnormal accessory pathways may be responsible for re-entrant tachycardias.

The A-V node is supplied by the right coronary artery in 80% of people.

This divides into left and right branches to conduct the AP to the ventricles.
