The Peripheral Nerve Stimulator (PNS) is used to monitor the effects of the neuromuscular blockers, specifically to:

• Check that the effects of succinylcholine have worn off prior to administration of a non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocker
• Check the depth of neuromuscular blockade
• Determine that neuromuscular blockade is reversible
• Confirm that neuromuscular blockade has been reversed satisfactorily
